Handmade in Germany from Bosnian mountain maple exclusively for Richard Craig at Consortium Music. Comparable as a German equivalent to the Fox 240. Specifically designed for advanced students and tertiary level performers. Try one today, compact (gentleman's cut) version also available.
The Performer is the next step up on an advanced student’s journey to mastery of the bassoon. Designed in consultation with Richard Craig Woodwind especially for the Australian market, the Moosmann Performer is handcrafted from Bosnian curly mountain maple, producing a very warm and flexible sound.
With 27 keys, including high D and E and left hand E flat, as well as nickel silver finger tubes, it has all the hardware for the advanced student to progress to professional level. The wing joint and both sides of the boot are lined with ebonite to protect from moisture incursion, the same as professional bassoons. Keys are made from nickel silver with a generous layer of silver plate. Now supplied with a balance hanger as standard, to suit all harnesses. The instrument comes with two professional crooks.
The sound is rich and dark, as you would expect from the German tradition of woodwind instrument manufacture. The quality of the finish is superb, but not just cosmetically. Tone holes are sealed with a tough polyurethane varnish and the pads are carefully installed by hand by master craftsmen at the Moosmann factory in Waiblingen, near Stuttgart. This attention to detail makes the instrument very responsive and easy to play.
Bernd Moosmann has supplied this bassoon to Richard Craig Woodwind at a remarkable price for such a high quality instrument. Comparable and arguably superior to the Fox 240, the Moosmann Performers would be at home in any advanced orchestra in Australia or across continental Europe.
