S.E. Shires Bb Trumpet, original Stephen Shires handcrafted AHW Bb Trumpet in silver plate.
Shires are almost a household name now with their extensive range of brass. Once upon a time, Shires trumpets were beautifully handcrafted by Stephen Shires outside of Boston MA. This trumpet is a beautiful example of his skill and craftsmanship of that era.
This variation on the standard S.E. Shires Model A trumpet features a heavier bell that helps to maintain its characteristic warmth and focus at louder dynamics, while providing a more veiled sound at lower dynamics.
It produces a powerful, singing tone with marvellous projection and easy, centred response in all registers. Its centred bell taper produces a focused sound and facilitates projection. The WH lead pipe provides an ideal combination of stability and flexibility; its free-blowing character compliments the centred bell taper. Nickel-silver balusters and valve caps add brilliance and character to the sound, increase its core, and contribute to cleanness and immediacy of attack. This trumpet makes a great choice as an all-around instrument for performance in a wide variety of musical settings.
This trumpet has been looked after and maintained over it's 10 year lifespan and is one of the coveted 3 digit serial number horns. Silver plating is 95% and engraving is crisp and even. This particular trumpet has had an additional lyre box installed that can be just as easily removed if requested.
Come in and give this trumpet a blow, compare it to a Bach 37 or 43, see how well this trumpet performs.
